Summary: The novel follows the story of a young, wealthy, WASP woman who spends a year under the influence of a combination of drugs and alcohol to heal herself from the death of parents. It’s set in New York City during 2000 to 2001.

My Thoughts: This novel wasn’t what I thought it would be. I thought it would be a happier novel of a woman who would take a year off to rest and relax exploring the things that would bring joy into and enhance her life – I hadn’t read the description of the book prior to reading it for a book club. It was still interesting to read and a breeze to get through despite the heavier content of reading about someone’s depression and the various drug prescribed to her. It felt like I was reading about an episode of the show, Intervention, but without the intervention. The characters didn’t come across as likeable people – this only added to the story and it’s movement through each of the characters with each other as they moved through life. Overall, I’m not sure that I would recommend to this novel to just anyone.
