Summary: Michael, an 11-year-old boy from Colombo, boards a ship bound for England in the early 1950s. At the start of this journey, he’s told he’ll be sitting at the “cat’s table”. The cat’s table consists of a curious group of unimportant adults and two other boys, Cassius and Ramadhin.

With Cassisus and Ramadhin, Michael stumbles from one adventure to another, intrigued by the curiosities on board. Each encounter opens up a whole new world for these boys including jazz, women, and the world of literature.

My Thoughts: It was very engaging novel which made it a really good and quick read. Although mostly taking place onboard a ship, there were great little stories interspersed among the main voyage. These little stories about some of the characters including the main character were great to read and put perspective on their time on the ship.
