Summary: Two sisters, Elfreida and Yolandi, leave a Manitoba Mennonite community with their parents and take very different paths in life and deal with their own struggles.  Elfreida becomes a concert pianist and suffers with depression much like their father while Yolandi is moderately successful author who seems happy with her life.  Yolandi, although entangled with the wrong men and making wrong, tries to keep her children and mother happy while keeping Elfrieda alive as the start of a new concert tour approaches.

My Thoughts: I surprisingly really enjoyed this novel.  The story wasn’t what I expected and I wasn’t familiar with the author’s work.  I had imagined that it would be a typical easy read that you’d take on a relaxing holiday.  As sad as the story was, it moved quite quickly and captured me thoroughly until the end. I’d definitely recommend this novel to read.
