Paris, Part 1

I spent less than a week in Paris in early October 2020. The opportunity presented itself and I took it – I was a young teenager when I first visited Paris so this was my first experience of the city as an adult.

I was visiting Paris with my aunt so we did a lot of things together and I had my must do list as well. Our first afternoon was spent walking around and exploring after we settled into our hotel.

Palais Garnier

We went to the Palais Garnier, Paris’ opera house, first but it was closed to the public to look inside. It was still a beautiful building to look at from the outside.

Galerie Lafayette
Le Bon Marché

From there we went to Galerie Lafayette as it was close by. We walked through the department store and up to the roof to take photos and enjoy the views of Paris. We then walked to Le Bon Marche (another department store). Both department stores were beautiful to wander around. Since we were both really tired and ready to sit down for a while, we chose a café in the Bon Marche neighbourhood for dinner before heading back to the hotel.

Château de Chenonceau

On the second day, we did a day tour visiting two castles, Château de Chenonceau and Château de Chambord, in the Loire Valley. The day tour also included a wine tasting as well. Chenonceau had beautiful gardens to walk through to get to the castle and the building was pretty as well to wander through. Chambord was definitely plainer by comparison to Chenonceau but encompassed a number of different building styles. Both buildings were very beautiful to look at and admire the workmanship.

The trip continued with 2 more full days in Paris and one additional day trip.
