The Chalk Garden

I went to see a play over the long weekend called The Chalk Garden. Since it was a community theatre group (Stage Centre Productions) performing at a local library, I didn’t really have any expectations of how well (or not) this was going to be performed.

The story of the play sounded interesting when I got the tickets – a grandmother living in the English countryside who, alongside a governess, is looking after her granddaughter, Laurel, who enjoys setting fires. Other characters involved in the plot is the grandmother’s daughter (Laurel’s mum), Olivia, the valet and a judge.

The play itself could have been much better had the performers been better actors.  Other than the actors playing the governess and Laurel, the performers were not that great. But this still made the experience enjoyable.
