Summary: Willowdean, nicknamed “Dumplin’” by her mom, was always confident and comfortable in her own body. She living her life comfortably with her beautiful best friend, Ellen, by her side and things have always worked. Will takes a part-time job at a fast food joint where she meets Private School Bo, a hot former jock.

With her budding relationship with Bo, Will begins to doubt herself. To overcome her doubts, she enters the Miss Teen Blue Bonnet Pageant with several other unlikely candidates to show that she belongs.

My Thoughts: I loved this novel and it’s definitely different of the other fiction I’ve read in Young Adult (YA) genre.  I liked that it focused on body image and issues instead of disabilities or sickness that seems to be typical of most of the YA fiction I’ve read. Some of the typical YA elements were included in the storyline such as the unlikely romance and a best friend where there are events that strain the relationship.
