Summary: Set on Guernsey, an English Channel Island, Detective Inspecter Ed Moretti and his new partner, Liz Falla, investigate attacks on a film crew and their actors.  The film crew is shooting a movie on the island based on a novel about an aristocratic Italian family at the end of the Second World War.  The crew uses a number of buildings and bunkers on the island, and a home belonging to an expatriate family, the Vannonis.  The attacks escalate into murder which Moretti and Falla investigate.  A number of issues come to light which are significant in the investigation. The issues also contribute to how the murders on Guernsey play into the Vannonis’ family history on the island and in Italy.

Daggers and Men’s Smiles: A Moretti and Falla Mystery

My Thoughts: I thought it was a good book to read and was interesting enough to keep me reading. I wouldn’t say it was spectacular but definitely one of the better mysteries I’ve read. I liked the plot and play between all the characters.  I was definitely guessing who could be the murderer.  Since it was set in Guernsey, I did a quick search to get more general information about the country.  The author, who has lived there, provided a great back drop for this book.  I may give it some time and re-read the book to see if I missed details the first time around.
