Summary: The author, Marisa Meltzer, writes a part history of Weight Watchers and part memoir of her own journey with her relationship with her weight. Marisa’s journey began at an early age with her first diet at the age of five. In her adulthood, she comes across Jean Nidetch’s obituary who founded Weight Watchers in 1963. Marisa weaves Jean Nidetch’s story within chronicling her own health journey and frustrations with weightloss.
My Thoughts: I enjoyed the positive storytelling of the author’s personal story with weight loss alongside of Weight Watcher’s history. Marisa Meltzer’s story was very relatable. To me, I found some aspects of Jean Nidetch’s story was relatable but was more curious with how she started Weight Watchers. It was great to have an ending that wasn’t typical of similar books where the author had lost a significant amount of weight and was raving about how much better her life is as a result.
