Summary: In snippets, we are follow a young girl’s journey from a Vietnamese extravagant home to a crowded Malaysian refugee camp, and ending finally in Quebec. In Quebec, the young girl embraces her new community and the chance to be part of the American Dream. The young girl, now an adult woman, has to navigate motherhood with two sons and learn to accommodate her younger son’s autism.
My Thoughts: This was a lovely read and well written. It eloquently described the character’s memories, both old and new, and the memories played off each other. The storyline definitely weaved seamlessly through the old life in Vietnam, the refugee camp, and the new life in Quebec.
