Summary: The first historical novel in Bernard Cornwell’s The Saxon Series, The Last Kingdom is the making of England in the 9th and 10th centuries as told by Uhtred Ragnarson. Uhtred was captured and raised by the Danes as a young boy and learned the Danish warrior ways. Among other circumstances including the killing of his Danish father and King Albert’s unexpected defeat of the Danes, Uhtred is forced to choose sides.
My Thoughts: I enjoyed the novel and am looking forward to continued with The Saxon Series. I watched the television show first before reading this book – did enjoy both and I wasn’t disappointed in reading this story after watching the show. All the characters were interesting and made for a really enjoyable and fast read.
