My brother and I recently attended the opening party for the Jean-Michel Basquiat Exhibit at the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO).
The party itself was fun with beer and wine available for purchase along with access to the regular galleries and the Basquiat exhibit. I happen to win the tickets to the event which I wasn’t expecting. We enjoyed walking around the galleries, the Basquiat exhibit and the Art Spiegelman exhibit.
The Basquiat exhibit was pretty good featuring several large scale works. The Art Spiegelman exhibit featured his work on the Maus graphic novels. Other pieces were on display as well such as his cover art for The New Yorker and his Garbage Pail Kids artwork.
Towards the end of the evening, as listed on the schedule for the party, there was a break dancing competition organized by Unity Charity. The dancers were youth that were involved in the charity as well as professional break dancers. It was fun to watch.
