Summary: A House in the Sky is the Amanda Lindhout’s memoir. Starting with her tumultuous childhood in a small town in Alberta, Canada, Amanda begins her adventures by escaping through the issues of National Geographic magazine. With a growing curiosity to see the world, Amanda travels the globe using the tips she saves as a cocktail waitress in Calgary. Each adventure brings a new confidence to Amanda and starts carving out a career as a television report. As a freelance reporter, she travels to Somalia – “the most dangerous place on earth” – and was abducted by a group of masked men.
My Thoughts: For the most part, it was a good read. It was well written and had me interested in the story for a good portion of the book. I did feel that some parts were too detailed and I had to skim over to get to the point. The photographer that was captured with Amanda Lindhout has written a book as well regarding their capture. His book is now on my list and I would like to read his viewpoint and make the comparison between the two expriences.
