Over the weekend, Harbourfront had Canada Day celebrations as well as its own celebrations for turning 40 this year.
Several activities were taking place including musical acts, family activities, dancing and dance lessons as well as several movies featuring Canadian locations and stories. I went to see one movie, This Movie is Broken.
I wasn’t sure what to expect of this movie. It is a fusion of music and romantic story as it features a Harbourfront concert of the band, Broken Social Scene intertwined with the romance of a young man and woman. The young woman, Caroline, is leaving Toronto to attend school in France and has spent the night with a man, Bruno, she knew from the town they grew up in. Bruno has always loved Caroline and he tries to win her over by promising backstage passes and a fun time at the Broken Social Scene concert.
I thought the movie was ok. It wasn’t what I expected as I thought the story would feature more prominently than the concert portion of the movie. For those who like Broken Social Scene and are big fans, you may find this movie appropriate and enjoyable.
