Summary: Allan Karlsson, a 100-year-old man, decides to escape the nursing home where he currently resides. He climbs out his bedroom window only to find himself engaging in an unexpected journey. Allan encounters several surprises along the way including criminals in search of a suitcase stuffed with cash.
Alongside reading Allan’s current adventures, the escapades of his younger years are interspersed throughout the book. With no education and losing his family as a young boy, Allan develops an interest and develops an expertise in munitions. Somehow he finds himself travelling around the world, dining with several political figures, and witnessing and playing a key role in most important events of the twentieth century.
The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared
My Thoughts: I really enjoyed reading this book. The story was a very funny, quirky, interesting book to read. I read this book based on a recommendation by a staff member at Chapters and it was also part of a book club I recently joined. I wasn’t expecting to have Allan’s backstory interspersed among the present day story. It was an engrossing read which made it quick to get through just to find out what happened. This book, I thought, was worth the read.
