Summary: The Kite Runner tells the story of Amir, a young boy from Kabul, Afghanistan. It follows Amir’s life and struggles from childhood into adulthood and the relationship with his closest friend, Hassan, the son of a Hazara servant in Amir’s family home in Kabul. A number of tumultuous events, from the fall of Afghanistan’s monarchy through the Soviet invasion, and the rise of the Taliban regime are interspersed throughout and add to the story and evolvement of the characters.
My Thoughts: It was a good story and well written. I felt it was great to read about a region that I’m not exposed to other than what we hear in the news. The book was definitely a deeper story and a page turner. I didn’t connect with the characters all that much though. Considering that I read it during the summer months, it wasn’t a light read and has some darker aspects to the story.
