I spent a wonderful saturday afternoon strolling through Ice Fest. It was busier that I thought with a lot of families walking around watching the ice sculptures come to life.
Ice Fest has been running for seven years and this year was the first time I went up to Yorkville to check it out. I arrived, with coffee in hand, just in time to see the on-street skating performance by “Glisse on Ice”. A mini skating rink was set up for the three skaters to do their performance. There was a large crowd gathered round the rink. I stood off to the side at the top of nearby staircase to watch some of the performance.
After taking in the performance, I moved on to take look at some of the sculptures. Some people were still working away at their pieces. There was a ice log cabin which was pretty cool with an ice fire pit.
There was also a selection of the neighbourhood’s restaurants, serving delicious looking dishes like soups, crepes, and mac n’cheese. Some of the food stalls that I walking by included Crêpes à GoGo, Sassafraz, and Jacques Bistro du Parc. In front of Sassafraz, an ice bar was also set up serving an apple vodka cocktails.
