London, a bustling metropolis steeped in history yet brimming with contemporary energy, is a captivating city. With its iconic landmarks, diverse neighborhoods, and rich cultural tapestry, London offers an endless array of experiences and the charm of this city never fades.

A Journey Through History

London’s history is written in its architecture and landmarks. Many landmarks are scattered throughout the city including remnants of the Roman empire interspersed among various beautiful park spaces.

The British Museum
Parliament

St. Paul’s Cathedral was also magnificent to see. Although I didn’t go inside, It was wonderful to view the beautiful dome and stunning exteriors. A stroll along the Thames River allowed for fantastic views of the Tower Bridge, an iconic symbol of the city (and many other bridges). Crossing one of the bridges to Borough Market, I found myself exploring the 800-year old cathedral by the water. It was a cute church that had identified parts dating back to the 1200s. By crossing a different bridge, I got an excellent view of the parliament building as well.

Culture and Creativity

There’s no shortage of museums and galleries to explore in London. The British Museum was my first visit with its vast collection of art and artifacts from around the world. Admission is free which allowed me to immerse myself in history without breaking the bank.

Art at the National Gallery

I also visited the Tate Modern to view contemporary art. It’s housed in a former power station. The gallery showcases works by renowned artists and had breathtaking views from its viewing terrace.

Art at the Tate Modern

London is a global hub for art and culture that includes the Tate Modem and British Museum. It also includes the National Gallery.  By the time I visited the British Museum, the weather was great and people were sitting along the grand steps viewing the grand boulevard. It was wonderful people watching before I head indoors to roam the historic art work.

It was great to take in a play as well at the National Theatre on the south bank of the Thames. I went to see The Grapes of Wrath which was fantastic.

Vibrant Neighborhoods

Each neighborhood in London has its own unique character, making the city a patchwork of cultures and experiences. One neighbourhood I found myself in was Covent Garden. I wandered through lively markets, enjoyed street performances, and saw that were some delightful dining options.

Chinatown

The airbnb I was staying at was in Chinatown which was also great to wander around in the evening. There were many people out and about finding themselves in line to eat at whatever restaurants they chose.

Green Spaces and Relaxation

Despite being a bustling city, London boasts a wealth of green spaces perfect for a peaceful escape. Although I did not visit the more famous green spaces, I always managed to find a small park to take a break in on my walks around town. Many people, both tourists and locals, also found themselves in these parks to rest, meet up with friends, work out or unleash their pets for some playtime.

Culinary Adventures

Chicken Rice, Mei Mei London

London’s culinary scene is as diverse as its population. I visited Borough Market, one of London’s oldest food markets, a couple times over the course of my time in London. Both times was to have food from Mei Mei’s. It was also wonderful to walk around to see what vendors had on display. I also tried to stop into a variety of coffee shops along my walks. There were a lot of variety of places at a many different prices.
